Send your Clutter on Vacation
Whether you are thinking of selling your home or want to stay in your current home, it’s always a good idea to tidy up and clear the clutter. Summer is quickly approaching, and along with it, the busiest time of the year. Kids are out of school, people are looking for new opportunities, and real estate agents, such as those at One Realty Group, are gearing themselves up for the busy market.
Because there is a lot of competition during summer, with many houses up for sale, sellers should strive to make their home as inviting as possible. As much as you love your knick-knacks and decorations, buyers will not be impressed. As Professional Organizer, Lisa Dodson states, “Clear the clutter, clear the mind.” Buyers are looking for a fresh living situation, a clean slate, and unfortunately your clutter will not give them that vision. With these FOUR helpful tips, buyers will be sure to be more impressed with your home.
1. Remove heavy drapes or curtains: Let in more light! Not only will you be making the room feel bigger and the walls taller, but the brightness and natural lighting will show off your house’s wonderful features! Don’t hide your windows or your views. Having great light in your home is an excellent selling feature.
2. Clear off your tables: Remove clutter from your coffee table, kitchen table and side tables. Perhaps have a small bouquet of flowers sitting on a table, but be sure to remove magazines, toys, remotes, coasters, figurines, decorative items, etc. We are sure your style is fabulous, but it may not be the same taste as the next home owner. Keep decorating simple and minimal when it comes to your tables.
3. Remove all magnets/pictures from the fridge. This is the easiest thing you can do to clear the clutter! After going through and removing all that is stuck on the fridge, simply drop the pictures and magnets in a box with a label, ready for move-day. This is a great way to make your kitchen look neater. And while you’re at it, go ahead and clean the outside of your fridge and other appliances to make them sparkle.
4. Take down all personal family photos. Yes, your children and grandchildren are the cutest anyone has ever seen, but it’s best to keep your personal life out of the sale of your home. Buyers need to imagine their family in your house, and it’s better if the walls are a clean canvas for them.
