Packing Without the Stress

Packing up to move is not something you do once you are in escrow, but rather is a process to begin while your house is on the market. It’s better to be prepared early while you have more time on your hands. Follow these simple tips to ease yourself into packing. Don’t let the stress of packing prevent you from moving into the home of your dreams sooner than later!

See what you have! By being prepared and packing early, you can see how many or what things you have. Find out what has been hiding in the tops of your cupboards or the back of your closets. This could be a great time to go through your old linens, decor, or gadgets that have just been sitting around unused and let go of what you don’t need. It is better to reduce the amount of items you have before moving, rather than going through the hassle of bringing over items that may not even have a place in your new home. If you have duplicates of items, or have not used a certain dish or blanket in the past year or two, considering donating it to your local charity thrift store. The less you take with you to the new home, the better!

What are you not using right now? Because you will have possible buyers walking through your home at any time, it’s best to declutter your home anyway. Things that you’re not using (but want to keep), such as already read books, seasonal decor or clothes, figurines or decorative dishes in your china cabinets, etc., can be packed ahead of time. Be sure to write descriptive labels on the outside of the boxes, especially since you have the time to.

Labels and Like Items! Detailed labeling on your boxes will help in the unpacking process. Not only should you write that there are bathroom linens in a specific box, but write what floor in the house or bathroom they came from. When packing your kitchen appliances and utensils, describe what types of items are in that box. Define whether it’s baking items or skillets and spoons. You will thank yourself later when it’s time to unpack and you are deciding where your things go in your new drawers and cupboard spaces. Try your best not to just randomly stick things in boxes just because they fit, but if you do, be sure to label it!

Estate Sale/Antiques! Once your boxes are packed and labelled, consider holding an Estate Sale. It is a fantastic way to declutter your home and get the most value for your items. Many homeowners are unaware of how valuable some items really can be. One Realty has assisted many sellers with this route and found it to be a wonderful alternative to a garage sale. Rather than have a garage sale, choose the estate sale route for more serious buyers, more traffic, and more items sold closer to their value.

The moving process should be exciting; it does not need to be stressful. The real estate agents at One Realty Group would like to make your transition process as smooth as possible.
